Many military families are paying full price for medications.
The cyberattack against Change Healthcare a month ago has impacted the military’s Tricare network of pharmacies. Change Healthcare is the largest prescription processor in the U.S. and efforts to recover from the hack of its system continue. Military families have experienced budget strains as they have had to pay the full costs for prescriptions.
The military’s pharmacy system did not restart prescription filling and refilling, nor the verification of insurance coverage for medications, as the hacked network came back online a couple of weeks ago.
“Military pharmacies will give priority to urgent prescriptions, followed by routine prescriptions,” stated Defense Health Agency spokesman Peter Graves. “Each military hospital and clinic will continue to offer pharmacy operations based on their local manning and resources. Please be patient while pharmacies take longer than usual to safely fill prescription needs.”
The Defense Health Agency announced that Tricare beneficiaries may experience outages of the Electronic Health Record System patient portals due to the cyberattack.
